Rev. Develous A. Bright

Brief Bio

Rev. Bright’s first name, Develous, is pronounced Dee-vel-yus.  He is named after a great-uncle (his grandmother’s brother) who graduated from Tuskegee University and died in his prime.  Rev. Bright is the son of Mr. Willie S. and Dr. Mildred Bright.  He was born in Houston, TX and graduated from St. Thomas High School.  Before graduating with a B.B.A. degree in General Business at Texas Southern University, he attended University of Texas in Austin and Morehouse University in Atlanta, GA.  Rev. Bright also possesses a M.Div. degree in Theology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.  Rev.  Bright is a life-long member of Kappa Alpha Psi (KAY) fraternity.

 

UMC Background

Rev. Bright is a beloved son of his childhood church, Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, where he and Rev. Kirbyjohn Caldwell, Sr. Pastor of Windsor Village UMC, attended Sunday School as young boys.  Rev. Bright is the former pastor of St. Mark’s UMC in La Porte, TX and St. James UMC in Houston.  He has served as a Resident Chaplain at the Methodist Hospital-Houston and Methodist Hospital-Sugar Land in a 12-month C.P.E. program masters degree plan.

 

Professional

Rev. Bright has an extensive backgrounds in both business, law, sales, public relations computer science and personnel recruiting.  He is also an accomplished thespian, motivational speaker and raconteur.  His professional passion has been in the field of entrepreneurship, especially in multimedia enterprises.  But now all of his professional gifts and experiences are trained on the his calling to serve the church of Jesus Christ as a Pastor in the United Methodist Church.  As a professional in the ministry, Rev. Bright believes that  Sloan  is called to greater levels of enterprising and industrious ministries that will transform the lives of its members, the marginalized masses of the world and even all of God's creation. 

 

Husband & Father

Rev. Bright is a devoted family man.  He is the husband of the lovely Kaylynn Bright and proud father of two beautiful daughters, Bella and Bijou.  With his wife he enjoys traveling, dining, and dancing to ballroom and big band music with her.  He loves taking his daughters to basketball, football, and baseball games.  They’ve become sports fanatics like their dad!
